Moored in Peace

It must be the Irish in me, but some of my favorite days are cold and foggy. I really like the serenity, the saturated colors of wet vegetation and sand, and the obscuring and revealing of objects in the shifting fog and mist. It was 11:00 am when I photographed this old row boat covered in barnacles and laid to rest in marsh grass by a storm at flood tide. Using a slow shutter and small aperture to retain sharp focus gave the image a painterly quality. The moving tips of the wind whipped grasses brush stroked the film during the long exposure. Less than a year later, the sodden boat disappeared in another storm.
