Chatham in April
"For a landscape photographer strong winds are your worst enemy. Avoiding blurred images due to motion, especially at slow shutter speeds is mandatory. On this particular day the wind was a steady 35 miles per hour with substantial gusts (Note the storm warning flag to the right of the lighthouse). The clouds were literally stretched by the velocity of the winds. Since I was using a heavy telephoto lens and a slow shutter speed, I needed a high enough perch on Morris Island that allowed me to use my tripod without extending the legs. Even then I had to weight it with a cinder block that I keep in the car for such occasions. I made the scale of the lighthouse very small to accentuate its tenacity and tenuousness in relation to the power of wind and water." -Jon Vaughan, Photographer
