Twin Pinks

Provincetown in April

"Though we live in Harwich, Sharon and I like to rent cottages on the Cape or the Islands. It sounds crazy, but inhabiting a place an hour or so away offers opportunities for intimate and in depth exploration of new and interesting landscapes and activities that you may never pursue while at home. Provincetown harbor is one of our favorites. The deck on which these Adirondack chairs rest is so close to the bay that the water laps against its boards with each high tide. I had photographed two similar chairs made from teak eight years earlier on this same deck because I was enthralled with the shadows cast by them near noon. I set them together to form a chair sundial that would tell you the exact time when the shadows were perfectly symmetrical – 11:35 am. My wife, Sharon, convinced me to duplicate the photo with the pink chairs. I really liked the new arrangement because the chairs and their shadow created the wings of a butterfly. Ok, we’re crazy. However, wouldn’t you want to be seated there listening to the waves and soaking in some warm sun on a beautiful April day?" -Jon Vaughan, Photographer

Processes and Materials

This photograph is dry-mounted and personally hand signed by Jon Vaughan on the back, including the title, location and time of year. It is an open edition print on archival pulp paper with archival pigment inks. Please treat it with the same care you would give to watercolor art - framed behind glass and protected from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. The print is permanently dry mounted on acid-free foam board. Then an acid and lignin free mat (Crescent Select - White Sands) is custom cut and museum hinged to the mounting board. The finished piece is protected in a custom sleeve of high clarity archival Mylar film. All of the mounting, matting and framing is done at Yankee Ingenuity. Bob Korn, of Bob Korn Imaging, printed this image, as well as all of Jon Vaughan's images since 1981.
